Saints alpacas began with an innocent trip to Northlands in 1997 where Leanne fell instantly in love with an unusual animal with a long neck and big brown eyes. One look at that cria and she decided they had to have some on their acreage. Their acreage has now turned into a farm located 30 minutes North of Edmonton, Alberta in between the small towns of Gibbons and Redwater. Their hobby has grown into a passion to maintain the highest quality care for their alpacas as well as improve their herd each and every year.
Since their initial purchase one fawn bred female and two fawn weanlings in January 1999, their herd averages around 25 alpacas each year. Saints Alpacas are proud to offer quality alpacas in a stunning array of colors including their yearling male Saints Alpacas LaRocque who is an appaloosa. The judges’ comments at the Lloyminster show were “in all my years of judging I have never seen an alpaca this color and quality of fleece”.
Leanne and Rebecca do the majority of the hands on work with the alpacas so temperament is very important to them. Since dealing with a few alpacas with a less than desirable disposition, they have began to breed for quiet, well mannered alpacas that are calm around people and easy to handle. It does not go unnoticed! They are always pleased when visitors come to view their animals and one of their first comments seem to be, “Wow, you’re alpacas are so friendly!” Because we are a small farm we not only give personal attention to each of our animals but also just as important we give personalized support to our customers.
Leanne and Rebecca put a lot of heart and sole into figuring out which males would do best on which females for the sole purpose of improving the quality of their alpacas and also improving the huacaya as a whole. Saints Alpacas are constantly looking for new bloodlines to diversify their herd. They are achieving award-winning lineup of excellent herdsires in a wide variety of colors for stud services. They are definitely a farm that can confidently say they are breeding for quality, not quantity.
Leanne & Rebecca enjoy sharing their experience and knowledge with their clients, and the biggest joy is when their clients go on to experience the same success as they have enjoyed.
